The shirtdress is a timeless classic that can be worn by young and mature women with the same level of effortless chic. It basically takes the form of a long button down shirt, comes in a myriad of fabrics ranging from denim (mostly in the form of chambray) to silk. Like a good shirt, the shirtdress can be utilized for smart and casual occasions but with the added advantage of not having to wear pants! It's a wardrobe staple and the versatility it offers makes styling it fun.
This dress with it's black and white but traditional pinstripe design gives off a certain haute couture vibe. My first thought was to take the classic look slightly edgy. First I added multiple pearl strands and a black and white boucle bag to accentuate the classic and then paired with white sock booties. Edgy accomplished and totally fun, not to mention comfortable, chic and effortless.
Notice to the left of the picture above, we seem to have photo-bombed a wedding! According to the man on the loud speaker, t'was the O'Brian wedding begorrah! Congratulations Mr and Mrs O'Brian!
The extra long cuffs and on-trend cuff ties add a little more panache than the average shirtdress.
Simply styled with a wide belt, floral pumps and over-sized clutch, the dress is ready for anything!
I love clothes that can be worn multiple ways, dressed up and down and worn with a medley of other things in my closet. That to me is a worthwhile investment. I rarely buy something that can only be worn one way or with only one thing!
This is one of my favorites, with sneakers and a denim jacket. It feels youthful and of course super comfortable. There's something about dresses with pockets that make me feel like I've got attitude... in a good way!
With the current trend in ties and over-sized bows with ends hanging long, I decided to try something along those lines. I found a long black satin skinny scarf at H&M such as would normally be worn around the neck and hang long. I picked this up on sale for $3 and used it as a belt tied in a bow leaving the ends long. I loved it, it had a softer more elegant look than the leather belt and made the dress feel very dressy.
It was super exciting to find this black and white striped canopy as a background to photograph the dress - it sort of makes my black and white pinstripe dress the awning on the cake!
It's the perfect transitional dress going into spring worn as a tunic over skinny pants or completely unbuttoned and worn as a duster over pants and a tee. It's also the perfect dress to wear if one is feeling a little pudgy, your secret is safe with a shirtdress!
This is the first shirtdress I've ever owned and it was kindly gifted to me from Stage stores with no obligation to post on Instagram or in my blog. However, I fell in love with it and felt the need to share. I've obviously been missing out as it's taken me 56 years to realize that my wardrobe needs a shirtdress! Sadly this particular dress is sold out, but Stage has another super cute one HERE.
There are so many styles out there, I've linked some other similar ones that can be styled in as many ways and more!
As always, thank you for stopping by!
