Living in a warm climate generally lends itself to casual attire, Arizona is no exception. It ranks high on the list of flip flop wearers despite there being no beach! However, there comes a time when a closet full of casual clothes isn't going to suffice. A pair of tailored pants is all you need to take you from meeting with your accountant to dinner with the girls!
I didn't actually meet with my accountant today, but I could have! This is dinner with the girls look! When you want to be smart-casual at the same time as comfortable, and jeans would be frowned upon.
These pants are from Ann Taylor and are their Devin fit, which means they are cut lean through the hip and thigh. They also have a relaxed and a curvy fit, regular, tall and petite, so there is something for everyone. They have a little stretch in the fabric and are tapered in at the ankle. The front off-seam pockets are flush and sewn up when new. I recommend keeping the pockets sewn up because a) stuff in pockets is unsightly, it creates bulk where we midlife girls absolutely don't need it, and b) undoing the stitches enables the pockets to gape over time. They have a front zipper, sturdy hook and bar closure and belt loops. They also come in several different colors, the one shown here is "Pearl Sand". Black tailored pants are a natural first choice, but here I decided the neutral color provides more options for the whole year round. It also pairs well with most things I already have in my wardrobe, for example leopard print blouses, a black off the shoulder top, and for a monochromatic look, same color blouse, shoes and bag or similar tones of the same family. Due to their simplicity, you can have a field day with shoes, from ballet flats to sandals and block heels. These pants really are a great investment. You'll wonder how you ever lived without them! The fun boxy t-shirt with feather trim was just $25 from Zara. I had to have it, it felt so Folies Bergere! It has a high low hemline and the feather trim is just along the front. The fabric is soft and comfortable, and the trim adds a little "ooh la la"! Just add a statement necklace to elevate the glam factor. I was lucky to have nabbed this when I did, as they're currently sold out. Here is a link to the exact same pants and other similar pieces to re-create the look above.
I will be taking this outfit to wear on a business trip in Texas this week, that's how confident it makes me feel, plus it packs well into a carry on suitcase. I hope you will have a wonderful week and thank you for stopping by.
