Previously limited to the grunge department unless actually wearing them for exercise, jogger pants were only a small step up from lounging in PJ's all day. Hardly surprising, since they are athleisure wear. Not the case anymore... enter the fashion trending jogger pants, the new wave entering the playing field are carving a re-launch of this old informal favorite!
Joggers have been re-invented in a variety of hybrid crossovers. A sort of trouser, if you will, made to look like joggers with a cuffed or ruched ankle. Even those with no ankle cuffs have the addition of side stripes creating the illusion of track pants. Still in high demand are the classics we all know and love in a variety of cozy cottons, comfortable loose fitting form, elasticated waist and ankles. Fabric options are no longer limited to the old norms. This season's coveted options of satin, silk and velvet are among the choices available, as well as classic cotton twill for a more formal interpretation.
These fine cotton blend jogging style pants are old from Splendid. They have cute ruching at the ankle, an elasticated gray knit waistband (which you can't see), and pockets. I love the smarter fabric which allows me to comfortably create a dressy or dressed down look. Above, styled with sneakers, a slinky lace camisole sporting a half-tuck, and a neck scarf for a wee bit more urban panache!
Here I'm wearing the same jogger pants with gray snake print slip on sneakers, a plain white tee, and a long cozy gray cardigan. The sporty cross body utility bag adds to the urban street style, whilst the pom-pom throws a touch of uptown glam into the mix.
Same black joggers this time dressed up with high heeled pumps. Clearly it's the shoes that change the look from one style to another. I'm a huge fan of heels with jogger pants. I love the feminine ladylike look offset against the sporty casual pants style.
These camo joggers are a regular cotton knit variety with elasticated drawstring waist and ankle. There is no doubt that they pair well with sneakers, so I decided to show you a not so obvious pairing - pointed toe sock booties! To balance out the feminine shape of the boots, I styled a front twist cold shoulder tee shirt top. A dramatic silver statement cuff pays homage to the metallic mirrored heels on the boots!
What Shoes to Wear with Jogger Pants
I’m a big fan of opposites attract. The contrast of sexy heels and jogger pants totally rocks my boat. I know, I should be over that sort of thing at my age, but I’m not and don’t see any end to it soon!
Pair with trainers for those much needed relaxation days without relinquishing any cool girl sporty spice style. Classics like the Adidas Superstars or the newer on-trend sneaks with embroidered embellishments or bejeweled beads, and don't forget slides or mules, all great shoes to pair with any style of jogger pants. Next up booties... the sock booties are the simplest as you can let your joggers hang over the boot, and they still accentuate the ankle due to the slim fit. Heels or flats, either way you get a whole lot of style and no compromise on comfort… with the exception of how high your heels may be! How to Style Jogger Pants
If you’re not used to wearing something this casual as an actual outfit, it may take a few practice runs to feel at ease. Sure, the celebs who flaunt this style and have the tiny svelte figures to flaunt along with it are wearing them with way cropped tops or sport bras. That might be a tad optimistic for us midlife girls. But balance is key. If your bottoms are big and billowing, keep the top a slimmer silhouette. A tee shirt for example doesn’t have to be skin tight but stick to slim fitting so you don’t billow from head to toe. Tucked in, or partially out with just a half-tuck looks better than completely out, as it creates a longer look and less bulk around the middle.
If you're game for a slimmer finish up top, then bodysuits are a good way to go. This can avoid additional bulk around the waist which ultimately is more flattering. Another fab option is a slinky camisole. I love this look, again it’s that whole contrast thing, the sporty and the sexy! If your joggers are a slimmer fit as are those I'm wearing, you can wear a shorter chunky knit sweater. Avoid a long sweater as it can have a tendency to drown or shorten one's stature. In keeping with the shorter length tops, layer a denim jacket, hoodie, or leather jacket over. It’s an effortless casual style. For me, this is where the casual ends. I will not be flaunting pajamas at the grocery store any time soon, or pretending that PJ’s are stylish, unless I’m wearing them in my house and going to bed! My pajama threshold is right outside my front door! Let me know in the comments your thoughts on the pajama trend, and also if you are, or intend to enjoy the re-visited jogger trend! We're definitely on the same page Cindy, I couldn't agree more. Even though I'm always up for trying out a new trend if I can make it work for my body type or age, I just don't have any eagerness to try out pajamas!

Okay. After reading your article, I ordered 2 pairs of jogger pants in different stores. I always promise myself that I will not fall for that trick again. So, here I am again buying things after reading bloggers. Curse upon web-stores with shipping, why it’s so easy!! Just kidding, at least on most part of it is a joke. However, before reading your post I didn’t know how this pants called, therefore it was difficult to find it in the web.
