Midlife pulls many tricks on us - hair growth where we least expect it, and hair loss where we need it most - from our head. Sadly it effects women as well as men.
Hair, like everything else goes through changes over the course of a lifetime. Shine and volume synonymous with youth gives way to dull, weak and thinner strands. There are however a number of things we can do to maintain our luscious locks for as long as possible without going the chemical route.
What we consume is the all important ingredient. Hair needs specific vitamins, minerals, and a major component keratin, the protein that hair is made up of, which our bodies slowly lose with age. So, not only should we eat the right foods but taking a supplement that has a digestible form of keratin such as KeraHealth can help to ensure we continue to have hair tomorrow!
My hair has always been a big deal for me, and I mean big literally! I was blessed with a good head of curly hair. I didn't always love it, as a child I couldn't have cared less except that old people would fawn over my hair when grandma introduced me to her friends! "Oh doesn't she have lovely curls", "Why, Karen is so lucky to have that curly hair".
After I started school, I realized I was the odd one out with my curly fussy hair and I hated it. I couldn't stand how my fringe (bangs) use to curl up like a horses drinking trough! None of the other girls had ridiculous hair with it's own mind and direction! Theirs was tame, one directional and slinky smooth!
Then I went to work in London and realized that everyone my age was paying at least two hundred pounds (GBP) to have their hair permed in order to achieve what my hair looked like already. My time had come, and I learned to love and embrace my curls, and so they became my crowning glory.
As the years rolled on, I experienced the normal transition that hair goes through genetically. Color loss beginning around the edges (of course - it would be where it shows most) which began in my forties, changes in it's texture made worse with curly hair because it turns seriously frizzy and the curls don't hold up the way they used to (those old ladies had no idea what they were talking about), and then worst of all, in my fifties the onset of thinning hair.
Large clumps of hair would become trapped in the comb upon combing through my hair conditioner. My ponytail, once thick and heavy, became a sorry-ass wisp of it's former self. Then there was the receding, no doubt genetic, as it began right where Daddy's hair receded, on the temples.
Where to Turn to Next
I'd considered Rogaine for women but was nervous of all the chemicals, Lord knows I put enough of those on my scalp already to cover my grays! So when KeraHealth asked me to review their hair supplement I was excited. Of course I did my due diligence as always before trying anything new. I'm paranoid about what I consume with the exception of wine and a good dinner out!
KeraHealth is a drug free dietary supplement that consists of naturally derived vitamins and minerals specific to good hair health, which in itself makes it also good for nails and skin. Some of the most important ingredients are Biotin, part of the B complex vitamins, zinc and some exclusive French ingredients, specifically a powerful antioxident SOD B extracted from a unique variety of French melon and Oligopin - Pine Bark Extract sourced from the Les Landes forest in southwest France. Together with KeraHealth's patented KerCysteine, a digestable form of keratin, this supplement can help with hair growth, lustre and the reduction of hair loss!
The life of a hair strand has three stages. 1 - the growth stage, 2 - the resting stage, and 3 - the final stage when the hair falls out. A single hair has a normal lifespan of two to seven years. When it falls out a new one grows from the same follicle. Aging and the subsequent lack of keratin causes the follicle to weaken leading to hair becoming finer, weaker and a faster rate of hair loss, eventually stopping the production of a new hair altogether in some follicles.
It makes sense that a healthy diet rich in foods that benefit hair, boosted along with a natural supplement that provides additional keratin among other hair nourishing antioxidants and amino acids can help maintain healthy hair and follicles reducing fall-out and stimulating hair growth. In addition, the healthier and stronger the hair shaft is the less breakage will occur and the brighter it will be.
After taking KeraHealth for three weeks I suddenly became aware that there was very little hair tangled in my comb from combing through the conditioner after a hair wash. The vast amount of hair I previously was losing during each wash had become a growing concern in latter years and clear evidence that my hair was thinning. The few strands I now remove from my comb is likely a quarter of that prior to taking the KeraHealth supplement.
I've now been taking KeraHealth for six weeks, and my husband just asked me if I thought I was losing less hair as he noticed the drain in the shower wasn't getting clogged up which it previously did regularly (with my hair). It's his job to unclog it, hence why he noticed ha ha!
The average person's hair grows about one quarter of an inch per month. My hair grows super fast, like a weed, I know this because my gray roots have a quarter inch growth every three weeks which is how often I have to color them. So already, I can see wispy new hair growth around my temples where I had previously been complaining to my husband that I'm going bald.
For most women, hair is an important part of our image. It's one of the things that makes us feel good about ourselves. A visit to the hairdresser, a freshly washed bouncy head of hair, it's all part of the feel good factor and makes us feel beautiful.
I want to help my hair as much as possible, especially given that I color it regularly. I've really noticed a difference since using KeraHealth with new hair coming in and considerably less hair loss. On that basis a thicker fuller head of hair is only to be expected. I'm aiming for a good hair day everyday, you can too.

Korean skin care products are fast becoming the most sought after and esteemed beauty treatments in Europe and North America. Saranghae is a 5-step skin care routine that has been developed over 600 years in South Korea using locally derived natural botanical extracts. The name "Saranghae" is Korean for "I love you".
A spray-on tan has to be one of the easiest and cost effective ways to get yourself an allover instant golden tan ready for a vacation or special event. I had the opportunity to try this beauty treatment, a completely customized hand sprayed tan at the Golden Glo Airbrush Tanning salon in Scottsdale. I am absolutely amazed how natural it looks and how gorgeous it made me feel.
Who doesn't love getting a manicure and pedicure? Hands and toes primped, pruned and nails painted to perfection leaving little jewels atop each digit like shiny bling! And if that weren't enough, the benefit of sitting back, being pampered, reading a trashy magazine or just people watching lost in your own thoughts, ah... bliss!
Wow, who'd have thought eyelashes could be life changing! If you've ever wondered what's involved in having eyelash extensions, what's required on an on-going basis and whether you should take the plunge or not, then you need to read this. If you want a real reason to justify saying "I woke up like this", and you're looking to amp up your "hello gorgeous" factor all whilst wearing no makeup, then this is the beauty regimen for you.
To start my Memorial Day weekend in style, I attended the official launch for the opening of the Tom Ford cosmetics counter at Nordstrom Scottsdale, located in the Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall in Arizona. I was invited to have my makeup done and meet Allan Aponte, Tom Ford's National Artistry Executive, and of course the lovely staff whom I have come to know over the years due to my love of Tom Ford perfumes, specifically Black Orchid. I've long since been a fan of Tom Ford cosmetics, his lipsticks are one of the few that don't dry my lips, and the nail color lasts without chipping for days beyond other brands.
I have become much more picky about the products I use since I reached my late forties and early fifties. I've also become much more skeptical about what products claim to do. When I find something good I tend to stick to it, unless someone I know convinces me that there is something better. Today I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite beauty products that I've been using for several years now. My loyalty to these products has not waned in the slightest, and I use most of them on a daily basis.
