Brian (hubby) makes the best mussels I've had anywhere between here and France, whichever way around the world you go. This is how he does it. This recipe serves two as a main course, takes about 30 minutes to prepare and 5 minutes to cook.
Beneath the cozy cardigan peep hints of feminine charm in the form of a lace camisole. I love how these on-trend camisoles soften the look of an otherwise tomboyish outfit. It can turn your comfiest gear into a "going out" outfit, especially if you elevate your boyfriend jeans by adding a sexy pair of heels. But for keeping it daytime, chunky booties or sneakers totally do the trick.
I have become much more picky about the products I use since I reached my late forties and early fifties. I've also become much more skeptical about what products claim to do. When I find something good I tend to stick to it, unless someone I know convinces me that there is something better. Today I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite beauty products that I've been using for several years now. My loyalty to these products has not waned in the slightest, and I use most of them on a daily basis.
Sometimes putting together an outfit to wear seems ridiculously difficult and frustrating. I look in my closet staring blankly at the clothes thinking "I could wear that if only I had such and such a piece to go with it", when the truth is there are plenty of outfits to be created from the existing inhabitants of such closet!
This is when I call upon some style 101 and go right back to basics. I'll start with one piece I specifically want to wear, be it black jeans, a comfy sweater or a particular pair of shoes. Whatever it is, that is the foundation on which to build. I pair simple understated pieces, generally solids to keep it easy, and stick to the same color scheme or choose one contrasting color.
What takes this basic look from boring to beyond are the small details in each piece. For example, the sweater's deep V neck line that flows into a front center seam, side split seams, deep dropped shoulder seams and flowing lose fit, is altogether much more interesting than a standard crew. The black jeans with coated fabric adds another texture and again elevates the style factor.
Many of us in our middle life and beyond are well aware of the importance of a pair of specs to hand. It's as critical to normal functioning as coffee or wine. Brian and I have readers in every room of our house, indeed scattered all over the place, they get beaten up, sat on, and of course lost (by Brian)!
I'm long sighted and wear contact lenses to help me with close vision, but for long periods of reading and writing I still need the help of readers. When I attend a meeting or go out to dinner, I don't want to adorn any of the beaten up readers at home, so I had to invest in a stylish "going out" pair, that I would always keep out of the way of Brian!
Every year in January, Scottsdale Arizona hosts the Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions. This year it takes place from January 14th to January 22nd.
It's the largest concentration of cars from old classics to modern day prototypes and everything in between here in the beautiful city of Scottsdale. Rows of gleaming polished chrome like the dinnerware on a banquet table, paintwork in every imaginable color like perfectly lined up bottles of nail polish. Proud owners dusting off their pride and joy, the crowds milling through the tents, browsing, dreaming! Celebrity cars for sale, rare cars in impeccable condition, so much to look at, not enough time. Then there are the auctions, the excitement, the big spenders looking to catch their dream toy. Outside, the tempting smell of barbecue, food trucks, and if you're game, you can tackle the worlds largest turkey leg!
What's in it for us girls? Men are not the only ones that these cars invoke fond lifetime memories for. Today, I saw my very first car, a red Mini Cooper. Forty years on, I can't believe I actually fit inside that car! The Morris 1000, the very first car my parents owned when I was 10 years old. The day my daddy brought that car home, I spent the whole day playing inside it pretending it was my play house! There's a huge Exhibitor Marketplace to stroll around and shop, plus, there are lots of happy men walking around, all in very good moods, some dashingly handsome!
This is my first time visit to a car show and I liked it! If you are in the neighborhood and have a chance to go, it is well worth a visit. A general admission ticket is just $20, with senior, military and student discounts available. Auction and VIP packages vary, but all can be purchased from the Barrett-Jackson website here.
The mid length pleated skirt has recently returned to the fashion scene. The last pleated skirt I owned was my high school uniform, so this was a far out purchase for me! It helped that Zara had the skirt on sale, and I'd had lots of inspiration on how to style it from magazines and other bloggers. Here are my variations on styling it, and this is not an all inclusive list!
If you're looking to ramp up your metabolism, torch a bunch of calories, improve your strength, endurance, and define your muscles, then the Tabata fitness routine may just be the answer to your prayers. Tabata costs nothing, and doesn't require you to consume any expensive, unknown supplements or concoctions. It's quick, best done in the privacy of your own home, and in my experience it really works.
This is all you need - a bedroom floor or any free floor space and a bottle of water. If you have carpet, then you don't even need the mat. If you're not used to exercising regularly, you don't need any weights, your own body weight resistance is enough. I like to do my Tabata in the bedroom because I can check in the mirrors that I'm keeping good form during the exercises.
